Our goal for today’s outing was to drive through Griffith Park, and see the Griffith Observatory.

We drove by a very large, and very full golf course. We stopped at the Autry Museum.

The eye of Mordor watched our every move as we followed to the path to see the LA river. I am sure the mind behind the eye was laughing till it cried as we wandered down to the path marked LA river, and found nothing but I-5. Maybe I-5 is the LA river, or the river is a legend similar to the mythical snipe? For now, I am a skeptic and no longer believe in the LA river.

We make the trek back to the museum.

We found out that the museum wanted $30 for the four of us to tour it, but factoring our the square footage for the restrooms, the cafe, and the gift shop, we felt our money would best be used on other things.

Like maybe the LA Zoo. Athena and I thought she should see it, as her mother used to take her there before she was old enough to remember existing. It is strange to hear stories of place you have been, but have no recollection of being there your self. So we decided to take tour.

The zoo cost us $17.00 a person, pretty much exhausted this weeks food budget, but we got a Winco gift card for Christmas, which made this blog possible.

The zoo here is full of common animals from the US, as well as many we have never heard of. This is a common alligator, he could climb this fence and eat us if he wanted to, but they keep him well fed. The moral here, is do not go to the LA zoo if you know they are low on funding.

Take note of his head shape, animals with head shapes like this, scales, slit eyes and long snouts are probably higher on the food chain than you are.

I was hungry as a car salesman, but we skipped the grill, the burgers were the size of silver dollars and $8.00 each.

I caught him eating from his stache, but he is acting all dignified and denies that it ever happened.

Now this was really disappointing! They are advertising bacon, but we never even found a hint of a rem-anent. Other vultures must have arrived ahead of us, or they were just over advertising their cave to the hungry; hoping money would be less important and we would head back to the grill. If you are a carnivorousness you should follow the same rule you follow when going to the grocery store when you go to the zoo. Don’t go Hungry!

These man made caves are not nearly as cool as the God made caves “Diamond Caverns” in Mammoth Kentucky, but for today they will do.

Who would have ever thought we would find a Magpie caged in a zoo? These things roam over the entire west coast. If you have a vet slit their tongue, they can speak English just like a mina bird. They poop a lot though, so you better subscribe to the LA times if you keep one in a cage. Note: This is a great way to triple the value of the LA times.

Meerkats , they are very cool looking, rather cute, but I must wonder if they taste anything like the Canadian Rocky Squirrel?

This is the ugly duckling according to everyone I ask. I think it is a beautiful swan. Probably taste a lot like a Canadian goose too, one must not judge is dinner before it is served.

This bird is served at the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas to shrimp lovers who cannot bear to eat seafood.

We learn that elephants are essential to the environment because they clear out the brush and create watering holes.

This guy can travel and takes down a 1500 pound zebra at 30 mph. He is definitely higher on the food chain, and staring at me; like I do the prime rib at Costco.

Alligator pretending to be a log. In the swamp, he would be terrible convincing, in the swimming pool, log is difficult to pull off. The LA zoo has about 20 deadly snakes and lizards all from this area. After touring the zoo, I am convinced many more creatures need to be made extinct. We also may want to add lizard and snake to the menu as there are way too many of these in the world. So if it is higher on the food chain than you, kill it and eat it! Have a good evening and a good night…
