September 9, 2010 – My Thunder Hole and Sandy Beach

We drove down the island to Sandy Beach and Thunder Hole and finally saw the Atlantic Ocean. The picture here is the roughest water we could find. We are standing at thunder hole, a slight notch in the rocky coast line with a round end point that hurricanes push the water into causing water to spout straight up making a loud thundering noise. The park ranger stated that they got a 20′ splash out of hurricane Earl. Over all the water on the ocean beach we went to was extremely smooth, in fact the great lakes in the northern states, and the Columbia river in Oregon have wave from passing barges that are about equal to this ocean. The waves we saw were a result of a high surf advisory from last weeks hurricane and the little storms we have been getting all this week. The last two facts about the ocean are that it is very cold, and extremely clear, we could see the bottom no matter where we looked.
Our motor home is starting to look pavement grey, hopefully we will find our way to a less stuck up RV park and wash it, we are beginning to forget what it looks like clean. These parks have a reputation to maintain (Trailer Trash!), they want our rigs dingy as can be.

Have a good evening and a Good night
