16 Feb 2015 June 10, 2012 – On to see Virginia City by admin | posted in: California | 0 Getting ready to go to the mountains, we check our batteries and find they are shot. We get the numbers and go to town, they were hard to find, but Batteries Plus had them. So one full day of driving and $600 later we got them. The battery box was covered in acid, the old ones were leaking. Athena covered the whole area with Baking soda and water. It foamed like crazy. i got some in my eye, now i have a stye and my eye is swelling shut. She said the baking powder neutralizes the acid. Now she is cleaning out all the goo she made, and is throwing the towels in the trash. Athena put the batteries in, I wired them up, and we are ready to roll. Athena is awesome! We arrive in William Kent campground, about 20 miles North of South Lake Tahoe. The campground is expensive for a National Forest Campground at $25 a night. The roads are narrow in here, we had to disconnect the car in order to get around the corner. The RV is wider than the interior roads by about 6 inches. When leaving the park, we had to go back and forth a lot to get around a couple of the outer loop corners. (No water, No electric and no sewer here.) We got in to our camp site, no internet via Verizon or any other means. So we are barely able to communicate with the outside world. We got bit on the way in. The pavement gave way under our curb side dually, we sunk and struck a metal post. – Ouch. I placed Scotch tape over the wound, until it heals. We walk to the town on our way to see the lake Lake Tahoe looks more like an ocean than a lake! Holly and Sarah enjoying the wave action Do not try and see the little parks here after 9am on a weekend, parking is a rarity Coming up on Carson City Nevada An old mining town on the way. EPA – Trying to ruin America one industry at a time. If the eco freaks have their way, we will become the only 3rd world country in the World. Approaching the town of Virginia City. We reach Virginia city. It is a mining town, and tourist trap. The bulk of it is organized around taverns and casino’s. There are a few museums, a train, and show that are kid friendly. People with problems go to this fortune teller. If the fortune teller can’t help them with their problems, they go tot he tavern. If the tavern was no help, they go over and join the gunfight across the street. Tourist pay to watch them shoot each other, the winner take all. I love the west. 🙂 Athena is reading a sign about something that made no sense to me, so I just take pictures of her. (By the way, if you can’t walk well don’t go to Virgina city, the boardwalks are so bad, it is like walking in a fun house. Athena and Holly practically carried me around town. That was a sight!) I found a sign to read, but only remember what it said because I took a picture of it. (Actually, I still don’t know what it says!) This might be a cool museum, but we did not bring cash, so we could not go in. Virginia City does not seem to know about plastic. Leaving Virginia City and Looking down on Reno. Don’t come to Nevada to see Virginia City, it would be a waste of fuel. If you are stuck in Reno, or Carson City and want something to do for a weekend, then go. Now on hwy 431 crossing over the to Tahoe at 9000 ft. A glimps of the lake, we are almost home The Pantekoek’s are back in town! Look at this house/ store it sure is wonky Good Evening and Good Night….
