16 Feb 2015 June 8, 2012 – Our 19th Aniversary, Gold, Collins lake fire, and the end of California is near by admin | posted in: California | 0 Sarah 2005 ‘ – Marshall Gold State Park – Coloma, California We are leaving here in the morning, one last stop in the high Sierras. and California is history. Prepping for our departure into the high Sierras, we started checking our systems, and discovered our battery bank was boiled dead. Batter capacity at 15amp draw equaled 5 minutes. Yup – Dead!. So we went to the big city and bought 4- Rayo-vac Golf cart batteries. Got home too late to install them. Sure hope they work well. Batteries Plus people were very helpful, we wanted to buy from Rocklin Les Schwab, but they did not want to cross reference our interstate battery part number with their Les Schwab part number. So we dumped our wad at Batteries Plus in YUBA City Sutters mill, where big nugget that started it all was found Sarah told us this is a Mormon cabin. We said “How do you know” She said “It has bunk beds” – if it were a normal cabin, it would just have one bed. The fire came up the hill, we could see it from the RV and the ash landing in our site looked like snow fall. Made everyone a bit nervous as the fire grew. The B52’s saved the day, the fire shrunk in a matter of hours. Their fire fighting abilities are admirable, and something we are all thankful for. We like Lake of the Springs I am so tired, it is a wonder this bog was created. If we have cell service, and electricity up in the woods, maybe you will hear from us again soon, otherwise be patient we will resurface someday. Good evening and good night.
