Sitting in Soledad Canyon Thousand Trails thinking too much about Holly and John our newly weds, we decided we need to get out and have some fun on the cheap! What kinds of things are there to do? The park here had no answers so we looked up the Metro Link Web (Los Angeles train / bus system site) Site. We found Venice Beach, and Hollywood among a few other things, but Sarah saw the California Science Museum. The price was perfect for this adventure at mere $0 per person for admission. So Athena looked at the metro link tickets and planned our route. The train on weekdays ran often in the morning and evening hours at one half hour per train, 2.45 hours travel time, and $14.00 each direction for the ticket with a cost just shy of $90.00. The weekend trains leave 3 times in the morning and three times at night, still a 2.5 hour run and due to lack of trains our trip would not get us back to the campground until 11pm. (I barely have the stamina to write this article. I certainly can’t go out on a 12 hour journey.) The cost though is $10.00 per person for the entire trip. The whole cost $30.00. Metro link stated driving to the museum, is a bad idea due to the steep price of the parking structure. Athena looked up the cost of the structure and it was a whopping $10.00 a day, so we took the car. The entire trip was 53 miles, which we made in 70 minutes due to slow downs on the freeway. Our gas was $16.00, parking $10.00 making our final cost $26.00 and our travel time less than half of what it would have been on the public transit system. On this run we really did not see the benefit of taking public transportation. After this much research and driving, Athena decides to lift some weights.
