Sitting in Soledad Canyon Thousand Trails thinking too much about Holly and John our newly weds, we decided we need to get out and have some fun on the cheap! What kinds of things are there to do? The park here had no answers so we looked up the Metro Link Web (Los Angeles train / bus system site) Site. We found Venice Beach, and Hollywood among a few other things, but Sarah saw the California Science Museum. The price was perfect for this adventure at mere $0 per person for admission. So Athena looked at the metro link tickets and planned our route. The train on weekdays ran often in the morning and evening hours at one half hour per train, 2.45 hours travel time, and $14.00 each direction for the ticket  with a cost just shy of $90.00. The weekend trains leave 3 times in the morning and three times at night, still a 2.5 hour run and due to lack of trains our trip would not get us back to the campground until 11pm. (I barely have the stamina to write this article. I certainly can’t go out on a 12 hour journey.) The cost though is $10.00 per person for the entire trip. The whole cost $30.00. Metro link stated driving to the museum, is a bad idea due to the steep price of the parking structure.  Athena looked up the cost of the structure and it was a whopping $10.00 a day, so we took the car. The entire trip was 53 miles, which we made in 70 minutes due to slow downs on the freeway. Our gas was $16.00, parking $10.00 making our final cost $26.00 and our travel time less than half of what it would have been on the public transit system. On this run we really did not see the benefit of taking public transportation. After this much research and driving, Athena decides to lift some weights.

I would not recommend tangling with Athena, she has had a lot of practice doing heavy lifting by picking me up all the time. Today, she singlehandedly uses this rope to pick up the Toyota Tundra that pulled the Space Shuttle Endeavor to its current resting place. The lesson here is one I learned a long time ago, Don’t mess with my wife. 2There are space capsules in the museum along with weird things like this. Unlike the Smithsonian in DC and Dullus you can’t go in any of them. They are interesting none the less. 3Anyone know what this coupler is called? I have a project that needs the mail and female versions of this thing. I need it in three inch ID though? I would have settled for this one as a start, but they would not open the display case. 4Low flying air craft. Needs dusted though 5The ecosystems exhibit was really worth the visit. It is huge and extremely well done. The engineers in my group noticed the timing of the ocean waves was too frequent though. I wondered if waves have different frequencies based on location. They were most likely governed by the size and shape of the flywheel driving the wave piston, the power feed on the electric motor governing its rotational speed is probably irrelevant. Well we have waves and fish! 6I decided this guy must be one of those big tough gang members that roam the streets of the East LA communities such as Palmdale. They figured if he was so tough they would just throw him in the tank with the sharks, if he makes it a day, they pull him out and give him a job. If not, it saves the state tons of money on repeat offenders and fish food. 7This room said they were teaching algebra. So far, I can’t find any algebra. 8Sarah while testing the device to see if they got it right, is thinking they need less toys and more algebra! 9This guy was a real dare devil and for a can of Red Bull, some kudos, and who knows, was will to travel into the outer atmosphere and jump out of this tin can return back to into the earth surface. Get the whole story of his jump: https://rt.com/news/baumgartner-jump-space-record-264/ 10Well, they heard us complaining about the slowness and ineffectiveness of the train, so they sent us an alternate source of transportation. It’s not perfect it only has the human carrying capacity of a smart car. Speed though is astounding.

Well it is time for us to head back to Soledad Canyon. Even one at a time, we should surpass the capabilities of current ground transportation. Have a Good Evening and a Good Night
