July 10, 2013 From Sunriver to Silverwood and Back Again – Are we crazy?

From Sunriver to Silverwood and Back Again – Are we crazy? In case you were wondering, that was definitely one of those rhetorical questions, Sarah!

The good thing is the trip did have a few breaks along the way. Our first stop was Darin’s Mom’s house in Farmington Washington 422 miles from Sunriver Oregon and about 45 miles from Spokane Washington

Where we are staying, it is not the RV, but it very pretty, and Darin’s parents have done a wonderful job with the home and the surrounding landscaping.

Mom’s Garden This rose garden is beautiful, out does many of the city park displays that we have seen.

Just love flowers, could not resist the rich colors, and you’re stuck enjoying them with me.

The Parlor, I fear has more square footage, than our entire house, but our house by necessity is smaller since it has to travel down the highway at 70mph. Speaking of that, we were going to Silverwood, were we not?

The cars go 85′ into the sky suspended by nothing but wooded girders.

Then they come racing down through the bushes and under a building speeding by at nearly 55 Mph!

This, is all that is between the coaster, its riders, and death! One split board and its all over, but what a way to go out. :)

This building is the gateway to a thrill ride of another kind. If 1800′s steam engines are your idea of a thrill. The train comes by every hour and circumnavigates the park. What a great way to get oriented with the parks offerings. The building here is of the same theme as all the buildings in the park are of an old west / Victorian era.

Sarah and Seth give the bumper boats a run for their money. These things not only allow you hit each other, but each one is armed with a water cannon capable soaking a friend at nearly 30′.

Looks like the boats breed determination

If determination is a disease, Seth is now incurable. The Water Park Silverwood’s water park has plenty of attractions, and that is where my family and friends spent the bulk of the day.

The waves grow quite large, have a greater frequency than the ocean, and will knock you on your butt from time to time.

You can race a friend down this weird water slide. Getting to the top, might be a challenge though.

Now for the kiddie a pool, providing you can keep up with the kids.

Now this would be relaxing, if only we could turn off that Ol’ time a rock and roll coming from the speaker next to Mom’s hand.

The bucket at the top fills up with water every so often, then it dumps out on some unsuspecting tourist. A bucket after my own heart. They are so thoughtful in the design of their attractions.

They call this the lazy river, it has a current that pushes things, and people in circle that is about 100 yards long. There are pipes shooting water in over head, just in case things are not already wet enough.

Here is a sample of person in the lazy river.

Nothing like liquor and water sports to get things going. The only tavern I saw in the park, is right here smack dab in the middle of the lazy river. One must be 21 to visit the tavern, and don’t drink too much, the tubes are hard enough to stay on as is.

These two water slides use 5 person rafts one on the open yellow side or one on the enclosed green slide. Pretty fun, you get dumped in the pool below. The ride takes about 30 seconds, but the line was consistently 45 minutes. :(

Battle Zone – Two people ride in a tank and try to squirt the onlookers with water. Steve’s family has guns that shoot rubber balls at the tanks. The tanks have little targets on the side. Everyone seemed to enjoy the game immensely, I however was disappointed to learn the tanks could not be sunk. It appears the tanks water cannon has the upper hand in this battle.

The ride of the day was the log ride. It is very weak compared with the Disney rides, or even the log ride at the Enchanted Forrest south of Salem, Oregon. Personally in spite of that, I would not miss it! After this ride, it was time to get a cup of coffee (Took over an hour from purchase to receipt of the coffee.) With coffee in hand it was time to settle in for one of the best fireworks displays we had ever seen. Every second was equal to the grand finale at every public display we had attended. The raucous of the display, even beat the Disney World Christmas display. Wow! that was worth the price of admission. Our thanks go to Mom and Ron for taking us out to Silverwood, allowing us to experience the park, and the show. We will not soon forget this treat with our family and friends. Thanks again, for a week at your house, with all the family that came.

The kids liven up the Garden. I helped by tripping on the curve while walking in front of the bench. I hear I was more graceful the kids who rolled down on purpose. It is nice that one cannot see himself from time to time.

is wonderful to be a kid. Kids get to run through the garden, adults have to walk. It is no wonder adults have to go on diets.

Culture says adults over 15 do not run in the garden, they sit on a bench and act dignified. (I wonder what dignified means? Maybe it is me sleeping, or Holly texting? )

Dignified adults, send their older kids in to retrieve the younger ones when the time comes to depart. The younger one though is wise to this and is well studied. Knowing her history, she tries the Gandhi approach.

The older ones though were bigger than the younger one and won her over. Now, we visit the Japanese gardens.

The rose Garden pales compared to my Moms garden, but the girls bring beauty and life to this park.

Holly and Grace are standing in the shade looking out over the pond observing a straggling wood duck as it checks out what used to be critical stopping point its journeys. First we erased his natural habitat, replacing his habitat with ponds and streams in our communities. Now we are wiping out the urban habitat and telling the water fowl to make their own way. History does repeat itself, ask the Indians how it worked out for them. Don’t feed the duck, they pollute!

After over 1000 miles of driving, we are now back in Sunriver visiting our most active neighbor. Been a long time since the last article. We were plagued with technology challenges such as a my laptop suffering from heat stroke, a hacked router, and some other obnoxious computer issues we seem to be back in the saddle. Like it or not, there will be more articles to come. Remember to blow your computer at least once a month with a can of compressed air. This will go a long ways toward preventing heat stroke. Have a good evening and a good night…. PS: I discovered people in the Northwest are more fluffy than people in the southern states. My theory is July, August, and September are the only months amiable toward going out side and swimming. In the southern states, people seem to be outside every month except December and January. Governor Cuomo in New York should take notice and mandate that all New Yorkers move to Los Angeles for health reasons.
