July 11, 2012 – Picnics, Mom’s House, Fireworks, and Firetrucks.

This entry is unusual for us in that it covers two weeks of our travels. We wanted to visit Mom and Papa while ignoring the internet and phone for a couple weeks. Since we left there, we have had little or no access to the internet. It appears the “No Country Boy Left Behind” stimulus package left this country boy behind!

To say the least, Mom and Ron, and all her friends rolled out the red carpet for us. We had a wonderful time visiting them all, and are most grateful to them.  So this entry covers picnics, Mom’s house, Fireworks, and Firetrucks.

This church is not yet dead, but they bought a headstone. Must be planning in advance.

This is absolutely incredible, it is a mud based bird nest, 4′ off the ground, hanging over the down town sidewalk, unharmed by passers by. Even the kids in this town are considerate of their fellow earth creatures. This proves, there is some hint of intelligence on this planet.

Clouds let go and flood the land with torrents of rain, knocking the pedals off Moms roses.

Well the fun is over, and we are left with a beautiful rain bow over the back deck.

We went to church with Mom, and were then invited to Micky and Clyde home for a picnic on the 4th of July, they had a BBQ for several families, and the girls swam in their pool. Every one had a wonderful time visiting. Our visit there was too short, but we had to get home to Moms and light fireworks. (Out of city limits though, as it is illegal to light fireworks in Farmington. Some one needs to talk to the Mayor about that law.)

Well, here they are! The most exciting fireworks Athena would let us buy. (Randy, we need you! Don’t welch out on the 4th of July anymore, Farmington missed your mortars)

Mark is leading Sarah around on his horse. Mark claims he is much older than he looks. Since he is pastor, he is not allowed to lie, therefore, we assume he is nipping at the fountain of youth, and not sharing.

Mom, Chris and Athena sit in the back yard playing a card game. Forgot the name of it, but like Apples to Apples crossed with Truth or Dare. The game was just dangerous enough to be fun.

Time to eat again. Mom brought me to Manitue Park in Spokane. It is my favorite city park, of all the parks we have seen nation wide, aside from maybe Balboa Park. Compared to Mom’s yard, the park is almost a disappointment though.

To keep us from eating the chicken too soon, they turn on the TV. Everyone including the dog watched TV until the bird was fully cooked. Then we ate like civilized pigs.

It is time for Farmington’s annual Fireman’s picnic. (These trucks are the real deal! Has to be one of the oldest working fire departments we have ever seen.)

My first lady joins me as I unsuccessfully try to take a picture of the fire truck passing Mom’s house. Next time I will sit on a stool when I hide in the bushes with my wife. I could not get up in time to photograph the truck when it went by. (;

When we were done playing with the fire trucks, the little ones have a fire of their own. Then commence to eating!

My step Dad, who is The mayor, is out visiting with people about stuff. Probably Mayor stuff, even though it is the city picnic.

Well, the picnic was the concluding event for us, aswe had to leave in the morning to visit some good friends in Yakima that are remodeling / building a house. Our schedule from here is tight, have to be in Yakima on Thursday and Friday, Centrailia on SaturdayBeaverton, or Sunday, and Trout-dale on Monday. Wow!

Not the normal schedule the Rolling Shoe Box is used to, but we shall see how it goes.
