June 16,17 2012 – Tour Yellowstone

posted in: Oregon | 0

Yellowstone is one our favorite National Parks next to Moab and Zion. Unless you are a fisherman, or a skier, or just happen to be in the area, I would not bother going any month other than Mid July. August is just too hot for sane people, and the rest of the year the chances of snow and rain are too high. We got lucky this year with the weather, we saw Yellowstone at its best 70 degrees, mostly sunny, and mostly devoid of people, which is just the way we like it.

Prepping to go to Yellowstone, we have to buy lunch building materials. We went to the Supermarket. Their prices were Safeway * 5, and most of the materials were poor quality or rotten. The locals, must shop somewhere other than West Yellowstone for food. Another possibility may be that they drink their food at the fine establishment in this photo.

Another possibility is they rent machine guns, and go out into the woods, and get their own food. No one will confirm, nor deny my accusations!

If you are on a tight schedule, the majority of the cool stuff is located between Madison Junction, and the Old Faithful lodge. Do not bother with Mammoth hot springs and the painted pots(They are cooling off and losing their vibrancy) if you only have a day in the park. We toured the North end Mammoth and around the top on day 1, it was pretty, but not much there. We saw all the awesome stuff on day 2, saving the best for last. Hike around all of the paths at Old Faithful. (Eat in the Old faithful grill, it cost about the same as Wendy’s hamburgers and has better quality food than the West Yellowstone super market.) When hiking bring water.

Flashing your lights, honking the horn, and hand gestures did not have any impact on the bison. He was no match for that sports car!

Morning glory, my favorite pool. It used to be blues and greens, but as the climate cools, the hues change to browns due to bacteria infecting the water. Climate change is cooling all our favorite pools. More snow more ice, and these pools will be all but a memory.
